Inaugural I TRI Youth & Junior Triathlon - Long Beach 8/25/13
We are excited to announce a new USA Triathlon sanctioned triathlon event specifically for youth and junior athletes; I Tri Youth & Junior Triathlon - Long Beach.
Our goal is simple … to reduce the number of children who are sedentary, overweight and at risk for childhood diabetes or heart disease. The triathlon is the platform we use for character development, training, teaching and encouraging youth to develop a positive attitude coupled with confidence, patience and determination which are the cornerstones to life's successes. By offering the opportunity for children to take on the challenge of swimming, cycling, and running an age-appropriate triathlon children are able to get fit, gain confidence and learn many life lessons.
The swim, bike, and run courses of varying distances challenged each athlete in the 3 divisions based on USA Triathlon’s recommended competition distances for youth and juniors.
A USAT sanctioned event means the race must adhere to USA Triathlon’s safety requirements. Safety plans, course maps, and event details must be submitted for review by experienced USA Triathlon staff. This ensures events are safe and fair competition environments.
Individual awards will be presented to the top five 5 finishers in each one-year age group from 7 to 19 years of age.
With a great emphasis on a creating a fun, positive and safe environment and striving to teach life skills through sport we are committed to fostering academic growth, increasing leadership skills and promoting adherence to healthy lifestyles of young people of all sizes, ages and abilities between the ages of 8 and 18 in a fun, friendly, team environment.
